Vocational training in office skills
Bayer’s vocational training courses are built on a carefully balanced blend of theory and practice.

Training is split into blocks of several weeks at technical school and practical placements in various departments in the Bayer Group. During their practical training periods, trainees attend supplementary classes on subjects such as business administration and presentation techniques. These vocational training courses also include a two-year English course leading to an internationally recognized business English certificate.

Administrative assistant

Administrative assistants perform a range of organizational and administrative tasks in areas ranging from procurement, human resources and payroll accounting to order processing. There are also opportunities in book-keeping and cost accounting in the accounting departments: tasks include generating invoices, checking and posting incoming and outgoing payments, and dunning.

Office communications assistant

Office communications assistants need a flair for organization. In an office environment, they perform secretarial and assistant duties such as coordinating appointments, organizing meetings and business trips, and dealing with the related paperwork. For day-to-day correspondence they need word processing skills and ability to work with spreadsheets. Other areas of employment include personnel administration, accounting and public relations.

IT management assistant

IT management assistants work at the interface between IT and the organizational units. They use their knowledge of information and communications technology to analyze problems in specific departments (e.g. in Marketing, Procurement or Accounting) as a basis for the development and implementation of IT solutions. They also provide systems support for the company’s IT systems.

Commercial assistant

During their vocational training, commercial assistants learn a range of business and administrative skills covering areas such as materials management and procurement, sales and marketing, human resources, and finance and accounting. They learn to plan, manage, control and document processes and projects. Depending on where they work, they may have direct contact with customers and suppliers, negotiate orders and delivery dates or perform other routine business activities. For example, commercial assistants working for HR may be involved in identifying personnel requirements, administration of recruiting processes and planning the deployment of staff. Candidates need a high-school leaving certificate and good grades in German, English and mathematics.
